Set Goals
New Year’s has passed, and you’ve already forgotten your New Year’s Resolutions. It was nice to make that Facebook post about the “new year new you”, but the “new you” ended with that post. Don’t worry, that’s what happens to most people.
There’s a simple reason we continue making the same un-achieved resolutions year after year – we don’t make and write a plan!
Even if you’re not the “make a New Year’s Resolution” type – you have things you want to achieve this year. The first step to reaching your goals is to define them, and then, make a plan.
Anything that’s worth doing is worth writing down. This process doesn’t have to be time-consuming and can add clarity to what you want to do. It will give you the confidence to actually follow-through.
SMART Goals
Planning to achieve what you want is simple. Your goals must be realistic. They also need to be specific. You need to believe that your goals will improve your life and be dedicated.
You don’t need fancy 50-page documents. We created a simple SMART template you can download and fill out using Word. It has an explanation of the fields and a weight loss example. Your goals can be planned using only one sheet!
SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time.
The simplicity in the format gives you a quick way to not only make a coherent and achievable plan but also to quickly reference and understand it.
The SMART layout can be used for both personal and professional goal and project management. It may seem a little weird to make a business style plan for personal goals but the concept of setting out to achieve something is the same for both professional and personal.
Let’s make 2019 the best year yet!
