What You Need to Know in Trucking
It’s been a crazy time for trucking. Of course, it usually is. This industry is always changing and we’re affected by major events, such as weather. Here’s what we found interesting this week.
Wildfires in Oregon, Washington causing road closures and HOS exemptions – “While hurricane conditions are affecting large areas of the nation, significant wildfires continue to burn in the West. Federal regulations have been suspended for drivers providing direct assistance in Oregon and Washington while a portion of Interstate 84 in the Beaver State remains closed.”
More than 90 percent of roads closed by Harvey have reopened – “Nearly one week after Hurricane Harvey devastated the Houston areas, floodwaters are slowly receding, allowing access to residences and business. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, more than 90 percent of roads closed have reopened.
As of Friday, Sept. 8, there were only 44 road closures across Texas, down from 500 since Hurricane Harvey made landfall on Aug. 24.”
Florida Escapes Worst of Irma, Impact Felt Across State – “As of Sept. 11, every major interstate and turnpike in the state were reopened. U.S. 1 South, which runs through the Florida Keys, is still being assessed for damage and no residents or visitors are permitted in the Keys until it is complete.”
Tesla semi truck unveil event ‘tentatively’ set for October 26 – “Tesla had previously set September as the timeframe for their big unveiling of an all-electric semi truck created by the company. The big rig is now set to be shown off for the first time on October 26, however, in Hawthorne, California (which is where the SpaceX HQ is located).”
Five Apps for That: Driving after hours with simulation games – This is COOL! “Trucking simulator apps are meant to mimic the real deal. They can incorporate realistic elements such as fuel consumption, damage and the ability to customize your rig. Challenges include driving in the snow or rain, urban navigation and parking in different environments.”
