Speeding tops list of infractions by truck drivers during Operation Safe Driver Week – While the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Operation Safe Driver week traffic-enforcement and safe-driving awareness and education initiative is aimed at drivers of both cars and trucks, commercial vehicle drivers received the majority of warnings and tickets/citations during the week.

Drivers slapped with 4,494 tickets during Operation Safe Driver Week blitz – The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) released the results from this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week enforcement effort.

12.6% of trucks ordered off the road during North American brake blitz – During the weeklong effort, officers conducted 18,875 commercial motor vehicle (CMV) inspections. Most CMVs — 87.4% — did not have any brake-related out-of-service violations.

Canada ranked eighth among countries with strictest road rules – Research from insurance firm Compare the Market AU analyzed six different metrics from 17 countries, including blood alcohol limits, speed limits, mobile phone restrictions and seatbelt requirements, in order to determine which country has the strictest road rules.

Wyoming DOT to add weight restrictions to wind warnings on I-80 and other blow over ‘hot spots’ – On October 27, WYDOT announced that this winter, the agency will use updated weight-based wind closure messaging for light, high-profile vehicles across the state, including sections of I-80, I-25 and Wyoming Highway 28 where the state sees blow over hot spots.

More truck parking east of Toronto – It is located near Markham Road and Highway 401, allowing easy access to other major highways like 404, 400, and 407.

I-65 rest area project brings 225 truck parking spaces to Indiana – On Tuesday, October 24, INDOT officially opened the Kankakee Welcome Center on southbound I-65 near mile marker 231 in Jasper County. The Kankakee Welcome Center replaces a rest area facility built in 1988.

Multiple charges dropped in cases involving potentially illegal semi truck towing operation in Memphis – In the last six months, there have been at least six separate incidents and one bad contract with a truck stop involving A-1’s Towing and Hauling booting and towing away semi trucks – sometimes by force and often without warning. A-1’s Towing and Hauling is affiliated with S-Line Towing – which has also been involved in some of these cases.

Pay, parking lead drivers’ list of issues, but survey is topped by the economy – The economy was ranked the top issue of concern in the “Critical Issues In the Trucking Industry – 2023”, the survey compiled by the American Transportation Research Institute and announced at the American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference and Exhibition, which concludes today in Austin, Texas.
