VIDEO: Some drivers could learn a thing or two from this fourth-generation future trucker’s pre-trip – “Let me show you how it’s done!” the little boy exclaims to the camera as his dad pulls open the hood of his Peterbilt. The boy then proceeds to check the fluids, hoses, belts, and more, letting his dad know the status of each component.
What Semi-Truck Drivers Wish All Passenger Vehicle Drivers Understood – “When truck drivers list the worst behind-the-wheel habits of motorists driving passenger vehicles, they are likely to curse a blue streak while rattling off astonishingly long lists of egregious driver behaviors.
Some responses are expected and obvious, like drinking and driving and texting while driving. The dangers of both behaviors have been studied and addressed repeatedly by industry insiders.”
Manitoba truckers call for better snow and ice removal on highways – “Truckers are speaking out about what they describe as inadequate snow and ice removal on Manitoba’s highways, saying it’s affecting not only their pocketbooks but their sense of safety.”
Trucking Enforcement & Regulations
Roadcheck inspection blitz to include special focus on wheels – “North America’s annual Roadcheck inspection blitz will include a special focus on wheel ends when it runs May 17-19.
The 72-hour enforcement initiative under the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) sees inspections conducted at established weigh stations as well as temporary sites. Mobile patrols participate as well.”
Beware of Speed Trap Towns Across America – “Semi Truck drivers rack up millions of miles on interstates and highways crisscrossing the United States from coast-to-coast and border-to-border.
When OTR drivers exit these major arteries, their routes sometimes take them on two-lane roads through small towns for cargo drop-offs or pick-ups. These short stretches of blacktop are often where truckers encounter serious problems.”
U.S. DOT Launches National Roadway Safety Strategy – “Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg continues to garner the spotlight, and his recent announcement regarding the National Roadway Safety Strategy will keep a laser focus on his federal agency. From the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Washington, D.C., headquarters, the former Democratic Party candidate for president drew attention to roadway fatalities.”

Alberta looking to add up to 18 commercial rest areas – “Alberta is planning to build up to 18 new commercial rest areas in the province.”
New Jersey again takes the top spot for trucking bottlenecks – “The 2022 Top Truck Bottleneck List measures the level of truck-involved congestion at more than 300 locations on the national highway system. The analysis, based on truck GPS data from over 1 million freight trucks, uses several customized software applications and analysis methods, along with terabytes of data from trucking operations, to produce a congestion impact ranking for each location.”
I-35, Waco one of the slowest freight routes in the country, experts say – “The FHA report was conducted in 2020 and shows the path through Waco as the slowest in the state of Texas, and the 18th slowest route in the entire United States, despite Waco not making the 2019 or 2018 lists for top freight bottlenecks.”
