The seventh annual Manitoba World’s Largest Truck Convoy is on September 6th at Oak Bluff Recreation Centre starting at 11 a.m. Len Dubois Trucking will be there with two trucks, driven by Fred Barnett and Ryan MacDonald. Once the convoy has completed its run, the participants will be welcomed at the Oak Bluff Recreation Centre by Special Olympics Manitoba athletes, family, friends and law enforcement personnel for lunch and a presentation.
The World’s Largest Truck Convoy is a not just a celebration of the trucking industry. The real goal is to help raise funds for Special Olympics. Last year the Manitoba convoy raised $55,000 and was the second largest convoy in North America. This year’s event is expected to be bigger and better.
Special Olympics Manitoba offers quality sport training programs and competition to athletes with an intellectual disability from the ages of 2 years and up. For the past 30 years, Special Olympics Manitoba has provided positive, successful experiences through sport for thousands of persons with a mental disability across the province. Through their involvement in the programs of Special Olympics, many persons with an intellectual disability have benefited physically, socially, psychologically, and emotionally. The programs of Special Olympics provide a stepping-stone to community integration, education, employment opportunities and a sense of belonging in the community.
