Over the past couple of years, Volvo Trucks has been wowing us with their technological advances and well . . . pure marketing genius.
From 4-year-old Sophie taking Volvo’s FMX through a gravel pit full of obstacles by remote control showcasing the automatic traction control to Jean Claude Van Damme’s Epic Split to demonstrate the stability and precision of Volvo Dynamic Steering, millions have their eyes on Volvo.
The latest video by Volvo has them vying to break the heavy-duty truck speed record; although this has them competing against themselves.
Volvo already holds this title breaking the speed records in 2012 with their hybrid truck named Mean Green that was recorded at 236.5 kph (147 mph).
Their latest attempt to break the heavy-duty speed record and take the title of the World’s Fastest Truck is being done in The Iron Knight, using a Volvo D13 diesel engine with 2,400 horsepower, 4,425 pound-feet of torque, and 4 turbochargers.
It’s not like trucks are going to be traveling down the highways with these top speeds, but Volvo likes to push themselves, to prove the quality of trucks they put on the road. While this attempt may appear to be all about speed, it is really a demonstration of the performance of the I-Shift Dual Clutch gearbox.
