Truck drivers can eat a healthy, well balanced diet while they are over the road, it just takes a little planning. Fruit salad is an awesome little side dish that can be added to any meal. It’s perfect with breakfast and can be added to oatmeal or yoghurt or just eaten on the side with your bacon and eggs. Drivers can also cut up a bunch of fruit and have it sitting in the jump seat for easy, healthy snacking while your driving down the road. Plus fruit salad is a great alternative when you’re craving something sweet.

Making your own fruit salad or fruit bowl allows you to use fresh ingredients and avoid the preservatives and added sugars used in store bought fruit cups. It also allows you to include your favourite fruit.

There are so many different variations of fruit salad that can be made, so grab your favourite fruit, cut it up, toss it together and away you go. When it comes to serving sizes, the Canada Food Guide suggests 2 cups of fruit per day.

It can be difficult for truck drivers to eat healthy on the road, but it’s not impossible. Check more of our trucker friendly recipes.
